One of the principal rivers of the Pantanal region, the Taquari River , is dying. Pollution from cattle ranches has filled the riverbed, causing 90% of the river's water volume to permanently flood eleven thousand square kilometers of previously productive land. Six thousand residents have already lost everything and thousands of animals have lost their habitats. In the middle of this environmental tragedy is a surreal scene: thousands of birds that have nowhere to spend the night invading Corumbá airport.
